The jump from Nursery routines to a full primary timetable is bigger than it looks, for parents as much as children. A longer day, a bag full of books, and homework for the first time can all land in the same fortnight. Five things help more than anything else: keeping a visible, predictable evening routine; letting your child pack their own bag even if it takes longer; asking about one specific class rather than "how was school"; resisting the urge to correct homework before it's checked in class; and treating the first term's dip in confidence as normal, not a warning sign.
